The latest craze
My latest obsession has been renting whole seasons of tv shows and having all day and all night marathons. Its taken priority over pretty much anything in my life right now. Eating is a close second.
There are some good fucking shows out there.
See, I never really watched a full tv series before. Except for Entourage. Entourage is on Sunday nights and I just always happen to be a lazy ass on Sundays, so it was easy for me to catch the new episodes. Other tv shows or series, I fail at catching the new episodes, so I pretty much ignore them when they are on because I figure, there’s no point in watching the series if you always miss episodes. It’s just not worth it. During the week I dont have much time for tv. Life just keeps me too busy and when I do sit down to watch tv, there’s always a basketball game on that I would rather see.
So lately I’ve been taking suggestions from people, going to the video store and dedicating my whole life to sitting down and watching the videos.
I know what you’re thinking. My life is fucking lame.
But first it was Dexter. An awesome show. A show about a forensics investigator who moonlights as a serial killer. Then it was Lost, I’m two seasons into it and I have luke warm feelings for it. It was worth watching but I am kind of losing steem with the show. I mean, a hatch? An invisible smoke monster? Kidnappings? My imagination is not what it used to be so everytime they introduce a new plot twist, I cringe. Now it’s The Wire. Awesome show. Today I dedicated a solid seven hours to the Wire. Best seven hours ever.
So after I conquer The Wire, what else should I watch? What am I missing out on- and don’t give me sugesstions like Sex and the City or Desperate Housewives. Be serious.

Californication. David Duchovney is a sex addict. ‘Nuff said.
March 1st, 2009 at 10:51 pm
Seriously, did you have to mention Entourage? I don’t get HBO anymore and quite frankly it’s rather depressing.
May I suggest Lost? Or how about The Bachelor, it’s not Sex and the City…
March 1st, 2009 at 10:55 pm
Don’t give up on LOST yet!! It really starts getting great mid third season.
I have the same addiction as well, renting seasons of shows and having marathons. FIrst, was LOST, then The Office, then Weeds which I highlyyyyyyy recommend!
March 1st, 2009 at 11:07 pm
Ohh… Arrested Development. Scrubs. The Office.
I’m a sucker for a show that’ll make me laugh.
March 1st, 2009 at 11:13 pm
mad men!!
already said above but arrested is a must-watch.
March 1st, 2009 at 11:13 pm
hmmm…big love, firefly, battlestar galactica, 24, heroes….i watch A LOT of tv.
March 1st, 2009 at 11:22 pm
The Office. Chuck. House. NCIS.
March 1st, 2009 at 11:22 pm
You and I are exactly the same in this regard. Here are the ones I chose, and you may enjoy them as well. Californication, Weeds, Heroes, Six Feet Under, Heroes…I’ll stop now before my life sounds even more lame!!
March 1st, 2009 at 11:26 pm
lost
arrested development
true blood
weeds
how i met your mother
March 1st, 2009 at 11:26 pm
The Office. I will mail you my copy (i have seasons 1-4) as long as you promise to return them in one piece– lol.
You should also check out freaks and geeks. I’m watching that on DVD right now…it’s short (6 discs) but I love it.
NCIS is good too.
March 1st, 2009 at 11:27 pm
Firefly (suggested above, but really, really worth it). Also the Tudors. It is great.
March 1st, 2009 at 11:34 pm
I do this exact same thing. Clearly we need to be friends in real life. God, imagine the productivity, haha.
My favorite show of all time is The West Wing (because, you know, it’s a GREATEST SHOW EVER). It’s also definitely worth going through The Sopranos.
March 1st, 2009 at 11:36 pm
The Office, Arrested Development, and How I Met Your Mother are all hilarious.
But you absolutely must watch Battlestar Galactica. Before you go thinking that it’s all sci-fi and geeky, TRUST ME. It’s not. It it the most awesome thing you will ever watch–war, politics, love/lust, and the struggle for humanity all rolled into one.
March 1st, 2009 at 11:37 pm
FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS!!!! It’s so funny! I also recommend Arrested Development, watching it all the way from the beginning is the best since there’s so many recurring jokes. 24- I haven’t watched all the seasons, but when I did watch it on DVD I couldn’t stop. It’s a great show to watch on DVD.
March 1st, 2009 at 11:43 pm
Dexter is AWESOME. Hmmm…how about Weeds, Chuck, The Office, 30 Rock, Scrubs. Those are some of my favorites. Oh and the ever so lovely Family Guy.
March 1st, 2009 at 11:53 pm
oh definitely definitely Veronica Mars. Also Big Love is pretty good. But first, before you consider anything else, Veronica Mars.
March 1st, 2009 at 11:56 pm
weeds and big love
March 2nd, 2009 at 12:05 am
weeds, pushing daisies, the office, burn notice, eureka
March 2nd, 2009 at 12:07 am
six feet under!
March 2nd, 2009 at 12:16 am
I started doing this last year. I love that I can watch all of the episodes in order so I know exactly what’s going on, with whom, how long ago, etc. The West Wing, if you haven’t already, and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. Aaron Sorkin is amazing.
Per the other comments, I will check out Firefly.
March 2nd, 2009 at 12:18 am
So THAT’S what I should do to amp up my lame life.
March 2nd, 2009 at 12:20 am
Matt. Seriously. Battlestar Galactica. I felt the same about Lost too, by the way. But yeah. Battlestar Galactica, as horrible as it sounds,is probably the best tv series out right now. That or the Wire.
March 2nd, 2009 at 12:23 am
The Office The Office The Office.
I do the same thing. In fact, today I watched a couple of episodes of the office and the thing that makes me lamer than you is that I’ve already seen the episodes a number of times. I rock.
March 2nd, 2009 at 12:34 am
I literally just did this yesterday with the first season on True Blood. I would definitely recommend it.
As for others, watch Pushing Daisies and Arrested Development!
March 2nd, 2009 at 12:55 am
WEEDS!!!
March 2nd, 2009 at 12:57 am
Twin Peaks! It’s old (early 90s) and you’ll have to look hard for it but it’s worth it.
March 2nd, 2009 at 1:03 am
Black Books and The I.T. Crowd (British version, not U.S.). The I.T. Crowd episode ‘Work Outing’ is possibly the best 25 minutes of television EVER.
March 2nd, 2009 at 1:12 am
I do the same thing. That is how I got hooked on How I met your Mother and Weeds. Thanks Netflix. I recommend both those shows. If you like crime shows then there is always all the CSI’s.
March 2nd, 2009 at 1:30 am
hah.. I stasrted that when my course load in grad school got lighter, I finished the typical laugh-a-lot series first (Grey’s anatomy, sex and the city, scrubs, blah blah.. you get the drift) and now my boyfriend has me hooked to 24. And next up he has lined Prison Break.
Try them, seriously good stuff.
March 2nd, 2009 at 4:38 am
Heroes, Battlestar Galactica, Weeds, Nip Tuck
March 2nd, 2009 at 6:03 am
So I’ve actually never commented on this blog before (though I read regularly!), but I also do this, and I have very strong opinions on shows! So I feel the need to second others’ suggestions…
DEFINITELY How I Met Your Mother and Veronica Mars (though watch out for the series finale of Veronica Mars… it was not expected and therefore a bit of a disappointment)!!
I also highly recommend Arrested Development and Chuck.
And I watched the first couple of Dexter before I had to return my rented DVDs, but maybe I’ll have to re-rent and keep watching?
March 2nd, 2009 at 6:29 am
firefly, battlestar galactica (a do not miss in my opinion) and although its now pretty old, millenium is great too.
March 2nd, 2009 at 9:39 am
If you don’t watch Battlestar Galactica you need to get on that stat. Its such an amazing show. Other than that Pushing Daisies is amazing, so is Firefly but its only one season although it has a movie to follow up with.
March 2nd, 2009 at 10:17 am
Arrested Development, Firefly, How I Met Your Mother, 30 Rock, Mythbusters, Bullshit, Weeds, Pushing Daisies, Dead Like Me, Undeclared, Freaks and Geeks, Big Love, Scrubs and The Office. Futurama.
March 2nd, 2009 at 10:26 am
Prison Break. Seriously.
March 2nd, 2009 at 11:22 am
The Office and 30 Rock, definitely.
March 2nd, 2009 at 11:30 am
I have been renting tv. seasons on netflix like crazy. I can never quite figure out when stuff will be on, and once I do, I forget when it does come on. A sick demented cycle, but there you go. So what is on my netflix Que: Chuck, The Flight of the Conchords, Eastbound and Down, Psyche, John Adams (HBO miniseries-I am a history dork, just go with it.), Damages, scrubs, family guy, californification, Little Britain USA, Extras, Mad Men and so on. Hope this was helpful….
March 2nd, 2009 at 11:42 am
I’m doing the same thing with LOST right now, having done the same thing with THE WIRE during the summer. and THE WIRE is the shit. You kind of never want to watch another show after it’s over.
That said 6 FEET UNDER is great, as people have said, as well as THE OFFICE. I think my next project is going to have to be ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT though.
March 2nd, 2009 at 11:53 am
It doesn’t matter, because once you’re done with The Wire, all other shows will be shit comparatively.
March 2nd, 2009 at 11:57 am
you must watch LIFE. it’s in its 2nd season and airs on wed nights at 9 p.m. on NBC.
The first season was short (13 episodes) due to the writer’s strike and is out on DVD and it’s such a good, quality drama with bits of humor.
March 2nd, 2009 at 12:04 pm
That is seriously my favorite way to watch TV! I’m halfway through the Wire right now as well!
DEFINITELY go for Arrested Development next. Watch all three seasons straight through. I promise you will immediately go out and buy them afterwards so you can watch them over and over.
March 2nd, 2009 at 12:25 pm
WIll and Grace. My all time favorite.
March 2nd, 2009 at 12:47 pm
This is how I got addicted to The Office and Heroes. It’s the best way to watch TV.
I hate cliff hangers.
March 2nd, 2009 at 1:23 pm
Alexa is right on. Arrested Development, Lost, How I met your Mother are all awesome. So is Weeds. And everyone keeps saying The Office, which is a great show, but yes I am going to go all Europhile on you, and say that you absolutely must watch the BBC version. a.) it’s only about 13 episodes long. b.) It’s finale is the single greatest moment of television, I’ve ever seen.
March 2nd, 2009 at 1:24 pm
Wait! OMG you’ve watched all of The Sopranos, right?!?!
March 2nd, 2009 at 1:49 pm
Six Feet Under and Firefly. Six Feet Under has the guy from Dexter in it; I loved this show and still contemplate buying the complete series boxed set. Firefly is a great Sci-Fi series, but lasted less than 20 eprisodes, then you’ll have to rent the movie Serenity (the movie was made after the series ended).
March 2nd, 2009 at 1:58 pm
Weeds
Californication
How I Met Your Mother
Chuck
March 2nd, 2009 at 1:58 pm
Arrested Development, The Office, and 30 Rock.
March 2nd, 2009 at 1:59 pm
I’m one of those weird people who doesn’t watch TV.
BUT I’ve seen episodes of The Office and it’s funny. I sometimes watch that and House.
March 2nd, 2009 at 2:49 pm
I could send you my home movies from when I was little and sang a lot of country songs with my fake microphone. Those are truly awesome.
And in case you don’t want to do that…hmm, I can watch a lot of 24.
March 2nd, 2009 at 3:23 pm
marathon days are the BEST way to go!! it’s the only way to do it! recommendations, in this order:
how i met your mother
arrested development
it’s always sunny in philadelphia
the office
entourage
March 2nd, 2009 at 4:34 pm
How I Met Your Mother - seasons 1-3 is awesome, but by four, it got crappy.
GOSSIP GIRL!!!!
March 2nd, 2009 at 4:36 pm
And Brothers & Sisters!!
The latest 2-part episode is possibly the best tv episode Ive ever seen of ANY TV show.
TV’s better than the cinema, nowadays.
March 2nd, 2009 at 5:02 pm
How I met your mother, Freaks and Geeks, Undeclared, I loved Ally Mcbeal and That 70s Show…but I just started reading your blog - so I dunno if those are your thang.
March 2nd, 2009 at 5:09 pm
24. It may suck now, but the first four or so seasons ROCKED. It broke all the network TV rules.
I love Dexter like he is my own child. My own awful serial killing child.
March 2nd, 2009 at 5:18 pm
Hands down, Dead Like Me. There are only two seasons and movie just came out. But it seriously is the best show ever. A comedy about grim reapers. Give it a chance.
March 2nd, 2009 at 5:35 pm
My current addiction is “Chuck”.
March 2nd, 2009 at 6:00 pm
True Blood, it’s a new HBO special but it’s highly dramatic and horribly addicting.
There has only been one season so far … but it’s a good one!
March 2nd, 2009 at 7:25 pm
Sons of Anarchy. Might not be on DVD yet but you can watch online I think. Will make you want to buy a motorcycle and join a gang.
March 2nd, 2009 at 8:16 pm
Arrested Development
Weeds
Flight of the Concords

Prison Break. Changed my life. If I ever get put in prison I have all sorts of ideas on how to get out. Try it.
March 2nd, 2009 at 11:30 pm
i’ve done both dexter and the wire. now i’m on the west wing. highly recommended.
March 3rd, 2009 at 12:49 am
Its always sunny in philadelphia is amazing.
March 3rd, 2009 at 1:33 am
Twin Peaks. seriously. If you like any David Lynch films, you have to watch Twin Peaks but watch seasons 1 & 2 and then the movie…don’t watch the movie first!
March 3rd, 2009 at 3:25 am
Great picks everyone though I’m surprised no one has mentioned Friday Night Lights yet. It’s truly an amazing show and much like Battlestar, is not what you think it is (a dumb show about football).
If you like The West Wing (aka Aaron Sorkin) check out Sports Nite - it only lasted 2 seasons but was a brilliant little show. (and also not just about sports)
March 3rd, 2009 at 12:16 pm
Big Love
Weeds
West Wing
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (only one season, but oh so good)
Without a Trace
Heroes is good too — I watched the first two seasons in preparation for watching the third season in real time…but watched the first episode and couldn’t get into it. Marathon days sans commercials are really the way to go
March 3rd, 2009 at 2:13 pm
Prison Break. and Breaking Bad is awesome
March 4th, 2009 at 1:00 pm
THE TUDORS (Showtime).
For real.
Sex and scandal (and if you’re a guy, naked chicks abound). I mean, come on. What’s better than that?
Season 2 just became available on DVD. It’s addicting. My fiance enjoys it, as does my good male friend - so it appeals to both genders!
March 4th, 2009 at 1:01 pm
I should add that THE TUDORS is extremely graphic.
March 6th, 2009 at 9:33 pm
I maintain that I have borderline OCD - this may just be to make myself feel better about obsessions. I too have this issue with TV series’. The series’ (yes, that’s pleural) shall remain nameless (to protect my flimsy integrity) but when I switch on the DVD player / Sky Player I struggle to turn it off. 7 hours solid of TV is an easy thing to do some days. If you figure out the cure (I know getting a life is an option, but sometimes the TV is just too good) spread the wealth!! xx
March 9th, 2009 at 2:22 am
I second NicoleAntoinette’s suggestion of the West Wing…my favorite show ever and without question the best drama ever to be on network TV…
March 21st, 2009 at 12:27 am
Best.Thing.Ever!
90% of what I get from Blockbuster Online are TV series. Check out Californication if you haven’t seen it yet.
June 26th, 2009 at 3:10 am
I like to watch Veronica Mars episodes as well Lost. I found your blog on google and read a few of your other posts. I just added you to my Google News Reader. Keep up the good work. Look forward to reading more from you in the future.
August 16th, 2009 at 7:19 am
Entourage is a very clever series, every episode is very witty and the character Ari is so watchable.
November 24th, 2009 at 12:05 pm
Can you provide more information on this? greets
September 9th, 2011 at 8:58 pm
That is the fitting blog for anyone who needs to search out out about this topic. You notice a lot its almost arduous to argue with you (not that I truly would need…HaHa). You undoubtedly put a new spin on a topic thats been written about for years. Nice stuff, just nice!
